NBA Free Agency: Dwyane Wade Again Shows Why He's a Miami Icon

Marc Serota/Getty ImagesDwyane Wade is coming home. In reality, he never left. It's been a tough week for Miami Heat fans. Over the weekend, it seemed possible the Heat could end up the odd team out in the free agency chase. The thought of Wade in a Chicago Bulls uniform made our stomachs San Diego Chargers jersey
churn, as did the prospect of going back to the bottom of the pack. Now, in a Flash (pun intended), Wade is re-signing, and he is bringing along his good friend Chris Bosh. Whether the lineup is rounded out with the coup of a LeBron James signing (doubtful), or the acquisition of lower-priced players such as Brendan Haywood and Raymond Felton (not unlikely), the Heat will emerge as one of the off-season winners in the NBA. Looking back, we really shouldn’t be surprised. Wade always said his goal was to stay in Miami. He never gave us a reason to doubt his word in the past. This time was no different. This is the Wade we know and respect. He’s a superstar who, despite his superior accomplishments, gracefully cedes the spotlight to the media’s favorite, King James. He’s a team player who, as it turns out, was the team’s most effective recruiter. He’s a scorer who understands that adding another scorer is a good thing because scoring titles don’t win championships. San Francisco 49ers jersey
On Wednesday morning, we learned about Wade’s return through the normal means. An ESPN report. An Ira Winderman Twitter tweet. No Thursday night special. No fanfare. Just a simple announcement, then back to work. That’s why Miami Heat fans love this guy. He’s our superstar.
